  • 1 large round Italian bread or ciabatta loaf
  • 6–8 slices salami

  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup sliced green olives or olive salad
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp red chili flakes (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

For Brushing

  • 3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced

Instructions

1. Prepare the Bread

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Slice the bread horizontally and gently hollow out some of the inside to make room for the filling.

2. Layer the Filling

On the bottom half of the bread, layer:

  1. Cheese
  2. Salami
  3. Ham or mortadella
  4. Roast beef or capicola
  5. Tomato slices
  6. Olives

Sprinkle with oregano, chili flakes, and parsley. Finish with another layer of cheese.

3. Close & Brush

Place the top half of the bread on.
Mix olive oil (or butter) with garlic and brush generously over the top.

4. Bake

Wrap loosely in foil and bake for 15 minutes.
Unwrap and bake another 8–10 minutes until golden, crispy, and the cheese is melted.

5. Slice & Serve

Let rest for 5 minutes, then slice into thick portions and serve warm.

Tips & Variations

  • Press the sandwich lightly with a pan after baking for a true pressed style
  • Swap meats for turkey or chicken for a lighter version
  • Add roasted peppers or caramelized onions for extra flavor
  • Use olive tapenade instead of sliced olives for authenticity

Storage

  • Refrigerator: Wrap leftovers tightly and store up to 2 days
  • Reheat: Oven or air fryer for best texture
