Introduction
This Italian Muffuletta–Style Pressed Sandwich is a bold, hearty sandwich layered with cured meats, melted cheese, olives, and tomatoes, all packed inside a crusty loaf and baked until golden and crisp. Ingredients
For the Sandwich
- 1 large round Italian bread or ciabatta loaf
- 6–8 slices salami
- 6–8 slices ham or mortadella
- 6–8 slices roast beef or capicola
- 6–8 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
- ½ cup sliced green olives or olive salad
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp red chili flakes (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
For Brushing
- 3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- 1 clove garlic, finely minced
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bread
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Slice the bread horizontally and gently hollow out some of the inside to make room for the filling.
2. Layer the Filling
On the bottom half of the bread, layer:
- Cheese
- Salami
- Ham or mortadella
- Roast beef or capicola
- Tomato slices
- Olives
Sprinkle with oregano, chili flakes, and parsley. Finish with another layer of cheese.
3. Close & Brush
Place the top half of the bread on.
Mix olive oil (or butter) with garlic and brush generously over the top.
4. Bake
Wrap loosely in foil and bake for 15 minutes.
Unwrap and bake another 8–10 minutes until golden, crispy, and the cheese is melted.
5. Slice & Serve
Let rest for 5 minutes, then slice into thick portions and serve warm.
